Press Release 19th December 2002
With 2 of the YMCA 'A' team players recovering in hospital after
operations,
it was always going to be a difficult evening for the team.
The ladies however managed straight set wins and only dropped 17 aces in the
process.
The men's events were much closer and all of their matches went to 3 ends.
James Travis and Paul Carter took a while to get going and having lost the
first game 15-4, came back to win the second 17-15. The University pairing
took the third game 15 -7.
James and Peter Shaddock won 15-13 in their first game but then lost 15-9,
15-11. Peter and Paul then lost 15-12 and but 17-14 in the second game.
Unfortunately time prevented the third game from being finished.
Again, due to the time factor, only one mixed match was played and Melanie
Francis and James Travis won 17-16, 17-15 against Brian and Kirsty.
It is unfortunate that the University couldn't have longer playing time at
the Mayflower Centre. The result of YMCA 'A' 7, University 'B' 2, is
a
unfair reflection of the evening.
