Press Release 20th January 2003
The YMCA fielded 5
players who had never played in the Beckly Cup before in this cup match.
Salisbury Armada had players from
their division 2 and 3 teams and so it was
always going to be a tough evening for the YMCA players from division 5.
The YMCA team got off to an excellent start with Patricia Haley and Paul
Carter winning their first game 15-12 which kick-started the opposition into
action as they were beaten 15-2 in the second game.
Andy Jacobs and Lyn Harris were picking up points in their matches as were
Darren Bowden and Angie Regan for the YMCA.
The YMCA team learnt a lot from the evening and it is always good to play
against better players. But the beauty of the cup is the handicap which
had
been accurately predicted by the committee.
When the 'dreaded' envelope was opened, it revealed that the YMCA had won by 21
aces.
The YMCA now have to wait to see who they will meet in the next round.
