Plymouth & District Badminton League

Press Release 29th January 2003

Saturday Night at the YMCA

Mayflower Wednesday were the latest visitors to the YMCA for a Saturday
night Division 4 fixture.

In recent seasons, this has not been a good hunting ground for points for
the away team and the YMCA were almost back to full strength with Geoffrey Harris making his home return for the team after his illness.

James Travis and Geoff Harris got off to a good start winning their first
game 15-7 but Andy Crocker and Nick Rees settled well in the second game
and took it 17-14.  The YMCA men composed themselves in the third game
which they won 15-10.

James and Rob Loader won their men's match comfortably as did Geoff and Rob.

The YMCA ladies were in good form and the Mayflower Wednesday ladies found aces hard to come by.  Waine and Mel got the home team off to a winning start in two straight games.  Waine and Lyndsey won both their matches 15-10 15-10 and Melanie and Lyndsey only dropped 4 aces in their two games.

In the mixed doubles, the home team took the first game but Andy Crocker and Julia Leaves won the second game 15-12.  Rob and Waine won the third game 15-9.

Geoff and Melanie won their match 15-3 15-8 and James and Lyndsey made it a whitewash for the home team by winning 15-7 15-4.

So the visitors left empty handed and will be glad not to have to visit the Kitto centre again this year.
The  9 - 0 victory for  the YMCA Kitto 'A' team has meant that they go to
the top spot in the league table for the first time this season.

Final score:  YMCA Kitto 'A'  9   May Wed 'B'   0
