Press Release 20th March 2003
The YMCA Kitto C team played their last match of the season
against the
competitive Devonshire side who needed 9 points to boost their chances of
winning the league.
The YMCA team were hoping to help their B team as they are the other side in
contention of winning the league.
Pete and James from the Devonshire got their men off to a flying start as
Paul Carter and Steve Rowe displayed an irratic performance and lost 15-8
and 15-12.
Paul, then with Darren Bowden were hammered 15-2 in the first game against Pete
and Jon but the YMCA pairing showed a lot of determination to win the second
game 15-9. Darren went on to give a dazzling display which showed how much
he has improved over the season and the YMCA pairing won 15-13 to secure a vital
point.
Darren and Steve were then unlucky to lose 17-15 against James and Jon and
the Devonshire men regained the initiative to win the second game 15-8.
The Devonshire ladies have proved to be the strongest in the Division 5
league and the YMCA ladies found points hard to come by. Angie Regan and
Patricia Haley lost their match 15-2, 15-4. Angie had only played at the
last minute as she had been in bed with a heavy cold.
Patricia and Elizabeth Nicholson lost 15-7 and 15-2 and Angie and Lizzie
only managed to score 5 aces in their game.
Darren and Angie lost their mixed match as did Paul and Elizabeth.
Steve and Patricia lost their first game 15-12 but came back to win the
second match 15-8 but the YMCA pairing just lost the final match 15-12.
It has been a good year for the C team with 4 players new to playing
league matches. The loss of Jayne for most of the season did not help but
this gave 14 year old Elizabeth Nicholson some valuable experience and she
has proved more than capable of holding a regular place in the team next
season.
So the C team couldn't give any favours to their B side who now need 7
points from their remaining match of the season.
Final score: YMCA Kitto C 1 Devonshire D 8
