Press Release 9th November 2003
After walking away with Division B of the Plymouth and District Badminton League last season BAT’s Badminton Club Men found that Division A was going to be far harder when they played Devonshire Men recently.
BAT’s used the match to introduce two junior Devon players to adult men’s badminton and they both equipped themselves well during the match. In the first round of games Alan Berry and Mike Ward lost two very close games to an experienced Devonshire pair. Jonathon Freeman and David Williams took time to settle but then came back well in the second game to lose it narrowly.
In the second round of matches Alan and Jonathon found points very hard to come by in their two games but Mike and David shared their two games and took the first point for BAT’s in the Men’s Division. After this the BAT’s men started to show what they could do and in the final round of games Alan and David took both games comfortably with the Devonshire pair always on the back foot. Mike and Jonathon found their final two games far harder and after a long battle just lost the second game.
At the end of the evening Devonshire had won the match 9–3 but the BAT’s men, with two juniors playing, had shown that they could take points from the opposition if they became too complacent.
